A Brief History of the Foghorn

In eighteen hundred and fifty-four
Off the coast of Newfoundland

A passing ship was New York bound
But few on board would reach that ground

In fog so thick, she lost all sight
She was close to the coast but couldn’t see the light

Full steam ahead with a crash like thunder
Struck another ship and it took her under

The loss of life weighed heavy on a man
In the Bay of Fundy, he came up with a plan

Tell ships at sea, “There’s danger down below!”
When the light house fails, a horn bellows

Foghorn
Foghorn
Foghorn

Signal to sea
Sailor take heed

On the coast when the fog rolls in, and you’re
Soaked to the bone, brine on your skin

Can’t see port, can’t see starboard
You long for the harbour

Foghorn
Foghorn
Foghorn

Signal to sea
Sailor take heed

Foghorn
